The wine estate offers beautiful views and tranquillity. The rooms are comfortably furnished in African style – loft apartments as well as the separate luxury Manor House. The loft apartments have kitchenettes with kettle, microwave and bar fridge which allows you to prepare something light. Marianne, a national emblem of France, is a personification of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity (Brotherhood). The symbol of "Marianne" has very ancient origins. On her head, Marianne wears a special cap. This cap is called a "Phrygian cap" and was worn by freed slaves during the Roman era. It showed that they were Roman citizens and free. During the French Revolution in 1789, the figure of a woman dressed as a warrior wearing the "Cap of Liberty" came to symbolise the idea that freedom was worth fighting for. People suggested that as this symbol represented the freedom of the common people, it should bear the name most given to women of the common people - Marie-Anne. This later became "Marianne". Her statue holds place of honour in town halls and law courts. She symbolizes the "Triumph of the Republic". The Marianne Wine Estate’s newly-constructed wine cellar was used for the first time for the 2005 harvest. Hand-picking and hand-sorting of the grapes harvested from 17.91 hectares, ensures that only the best are turned into wine. What can be more fun than to taste Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage or Shiraz and then take a scenic stroll back to your room......hic! If you manage to peel yourselves away from relaxing on the estate then you can indulge in the vast variety of cuisine and activities on offer, visit Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschhoek, (the Gourmet Capital of SA) for the day. If you wish to sample some more wine, but do not wish to drive, then go on a wine tour with La Rochelle Tours who specialize in wine tours with groups between 2 and 10 visiting smaller wineries when possible. You can also take a scenic drive to Hermanus (best land based whale watching in the world) via the R44 which takes less than 1h30 min – that is if you do not stop too often to take some photos.
