Bushmans Kloof, at the foothills of the Cederberg, is an exclusive and totally private reserve with 16 rooms and suites. The Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve is a Natural Heritage Site and is home to many exceptional San rock art sites. Guests can discover the wonders of nature, choose from a vast range of outdoor activities, or do absolutely nothing but inhale the beauty and succumb to the peace, quiet and tranquility of the Cederberg area.

Accommodating a maximum of 32 guests, all suites and guest rooms at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve are elegantly appointed and furnished to create a feeling of restfulness and peace. A subtle fusion of African and European design enhances your personal space at Bushmans Kloof, while small surprises and thoughtful details offer you a special welcome. Guest rooms at Bushmans Kloof are either in cottages set among landscaped gardens and pools or form part of the original Manor House (circa 1843) where the suites were named after early Scottish pioneers and explorers. Koro Lodge is a existing farmhouse, nestled in the reserve that has been completely renovated and transformed into an spectacular intimate villa. Koro Lodge is surrounded by open vistas of wilderness and wildlife. Koro Lodge joins ultimate luxury with nature. The accommodation at Koro Lodge is available all year round for families and friends and provides the perfect, relaxed and welcoming space to enjoy the complete wilderness adventure of this Relais and Chateaux Hotel. The Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve offers a beautiful conference venue for business guests. The conference venue caters for up to 32 participants with state of the art equipment. Team building activities can be arranged, such as raft building, treasure hunts, survival games, drumming sessions, stargazing, canoeing and hiking. As part of your conference programme we can arrange a picnic alongside the riverbank.

In September 2004, the Bushmans Kloof Heritage Centre was opened. There is a series of photographic portraits revealing the Bushman culture and customs together with authentic Bushman jewellery, dancing sticks, hunting kits, musical instruments and many more. The Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve guides hold specialist talks and discussions of guests in the Heritage Centre with topics including all aspects of the reserve as well as insight into the general Cederberg Wilderness area. Adjacent to the Heritage Centre at the Homestead, is a unique medicinal herb garden where guests may learn more about these plants and the remedies used by the Bushman, KhoiBushman and later inhabitants.

The Trading Post at the Bushmans Kloof Reserve stocks numerous artworks and crafts created by local artists and craftsmen. This generates much needed revenue for the local community and exposes them to an international market. One such local artist is ex-Miss South Africa Sandy McCormack, whose jewellery range comprises items that are individual works of art designed and hand crafted by the artist herself.

Inspired by the healing essences of Africa, the Spa at Bushmans Kloof has introduced Africology – a unique and proudly South African anti-ageing and skincare treatment range. Capturing nature’s powerful healing essences, the products contain African plant extracts and essential oils such as Aloe Ferox, Marula oils, Rooibos and Hypoxis. On arrival at the Bushmans Kloof Spa, a personal consultation with a expert therapist will ensure your most appropriate treatments. Select treatments may also be enjoyed in the privacy of your room, closer to nature in a secluded rock shelter overlooking the tranquil valley or at our spectacular outdoor spa gazebo.

The sense of peace and space at Bushmans Kloof is augmented by the graceful sweep of lawn, meticulously landscaped gardens and water features. Apart from pleasing the eye, the gardens are a botanical showcase of South Africa indigenous trees, flowers and plants, including the famous Karoo aloes, succulants and the mountain Fynbos. There is always something flowering at any time of the year and the gardens attract a host of colourful birdlife, which can be viewed right from your private terrace. Three outdoor infinity edge swimming pools grace the gardens, so that guests at the Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve in the Cederberg area are never more than a few paces from a refreshing swim. There is also a heated jet-pool at the Homestead to enjoy on cooler days.

The River Boma at Bushmans Kloof Reserve is a place to gather round the fire and share stories. On warm evenings, its open air seating down by the river is perfect for sundowners and – when darkness falls – for stargazing or after dinner drinks.

Dining on the Bushmans Kloof Reserve is often one of the many highlights of your stay in this Cederberg lodge. The Homestead Restaurant adjoins the terrace with a heated pool, where High Tea is often served on cooler days. There are also 3 x outdoor dining options at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve. Makana (meaning “to feast” in the ancient language of the Bushman) was designed to recreate the ambience of a spacious open fronted cave; its stone walls enclosing an elegant lounge with twin fireplaces overlooking sweeping lawns and the River. It is the ideal choice for our mouth watering traditional high tea, scrumptious brunches with hot cooked breakfast, quiches, pastries and other mouth watering delicacies. Complemented with one of our fine wines you have an unequivocal taste celebration of the Cederberg. For a breathtaking dining experience under the starlit sky, a traditional South African barbeque (braai) is served at Embers, a unique outdoor setting within the Bushmans Kloof Reserve. A wonderful addition to the Bushmans Kloof Reserve dining experience, Embers is built into a natural ancient sandstone amphitheatre of giant boulders overlooking dramatic cliffs and valleys, and lit up by a roaring fire and hundreds of candles and lanterns. Diners are spoilt for choice with this traditional South African gourmet experience. Depending on the weather, the Manor House deck with it’s romantic riverside setting under colossal wild fig trees is another delightful venue for alfresco brunch or tea. Picnics are also available at advanced request and at an additional cost.
